THE BOOK OF JADE by Yun Wang

Winner of the 15th Annual Nicholas Roerich Poetry Prize.

Ms. Wang, who was born in Southwest China in 1964 and came to the U. S. for graduate studies in Physics in 1985, is an assistant professor specializing in theoretical cosmology at the University of Oklahoma. She will receive a cash award of $1,000, and will read at the book’s launch at the Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York in early December, 2002.

Selected from more than 900 entries, THE BOOK OF JADE was commended by the contest’s readers for its thematic coherence and intimate power. Many of Wang’s poems take place in China and beautifully explore family history and family dynamics, as well as the country’s ever volatile political climate.

Yun Wang has published one poetry chapbook with Bull Thistle Press. Many of her poems and translations of classical Chinese poetry have appeared in literary journals and anthologies. She has read poetry with music in performance spaces and galleries in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Oakland, California.
